AFS RACING Into the future
A new division of AFS was formed
in 2005 in response to a request from the works Lister Storm Racing
Team.
An Italian customer required an
experienced racing team to prepare a 2005 specification Lister Storm GT1
car and compete in the Italian GT Championship.
The management of AFS has
extensive experience in International Motor Racing having competed and won
many GT races in the 90s with a brace of McLaren F1 GTR sports cars
whilst working for GTC Competition/Gulf Racing, based in Surrey. AFS was
able to secure the additional experienced staff required to make the
project a winner.
Looking at the other competitors
in the series, it became apparent that this season was going to be
tough!!!!
The cars we raced against are the
current, state of the art GT racing cars from Ferrari (550 Modena and 575
GTC Modena) , Maserati (MC12) and Porsche (911 GT3) Dodge Vipers and a
Saleen S7R make up the rest of the field.
Some of the early races presented
various problems that prevented the true potential of the car and team
turning into results. After many hours of work including refining the
set-up of the car to suit the Pirelli tires that are mandatory in this
series, the results are starting to show. The team is currently sixth in
the Championship with two races to go.
The car has finished second in two races (Hungary and Magione) and we missed pole position in
Magione by .040 second (4 hundredths of a second!!!).
For a British car, the design of
which is now over 10 years old, using a Jaguar V12 engine, two valves per
cylinder, to be able to race and beat the million Euro supercars that we
compete against is testimony to the level of preparation and experience
that AFS brings to the race track.
