How much money will an LPG conversion save me?
On average expect a 40% saving over your petrol costs.  With Congestion charging in London and many of the UK's major towns and cities set to follow suit, even more substantial savings can be made with an eligible, AFS Powershift conversion, which is exempt from the charge once registered with Transport for London.  Also for the fleet customer we can arrange on site, bulk-refuelling facilities for further savings and convenience. Take a look at our savings page for an approximate cost saving on your vehicle, or contact us for a more detailed cost and benefits analysis.

How much will the conversion cost?
That depends on your particular vehicle model and the type of conversion equipment the vehicle requires. An average modern family vehicle requiring a sequential vapour injection system, generally costs between £1600.00 and £2000.00 + VAT.  As many vehicles converted by AFS are on the Powershift register giving the added bonus of exemption from the London Congestion Charge.

Will my car be just as safe after conversion?
Yes, crash tests have shown LPG to be very safe.  LPG tanks are designed to withstand enormous impact forces without being damaged and both the tank and system incorporate a number of safety shut-off valves and solenoids.

How will it affect my cars performance?
Modern sequential conversion systems offer superb driveability without any noticeable power loss and even make the engine feel smoother and quieter.

Can I still drive on petrol?
Yes, being a bi-fuel vehicle, you can run on either petrol or gas at the touch of a button.  However, you will be loathed to run on petrol too much once you realise the cost savings to be made when driving on gas.  Click here for more information on how your LPG conversion will work in daily usage.

Will the conversion affect my insurance?
Results of the survey carried out in 2000 with the Association of British Insurers (ABI) found that the majority of major UK companies would insure an LPG converted vehicle at no extra premium, provided it was carried out by an LPGA approved installer, such as AFS, or was Manufacturer original equipment.  Most would also not insure a vehicle converted by a non LPGA approved company or a DIY conversion, meaning you should make sure that any company has such a current certificate.

Where will the LPG tank be located?
In most cases it is installed in the spare wheel well as a toroidal tank or in some cases where a greater mileage range is required, it may be possible to install a cylinder, which will generally allow for a larger LPG capacity.

Where can I fill up with LPG?
There are now about 1300 refueling stations across the UK and this number is steadily increasing.
For a nationwide listing of refuelling stations click here
, or a list of LPG refuelling stations in London click here, or see our map of London.

What happens if I run out of LPG?
All AFS conversions are termed as Bi-Fuel.  This basically means that all original petrol characteristics and ancillary functions are retained.  The systems installed by AFS will automatically revert to petrol when the LPG tank is empty and also have the facility to manually switch to petrol at the touch of a button and back again, at any time, even while on the move.

What about servicing?
Servicing of an LPG system generally takes about an hour and is carried out at around 15 to 20 thousand miles or annually for most systems.  General servicing of the vehicle is carried out as normal and we would recommend that you inform your dealer/mechanic of the conversion and leave the vehicle in petrol mode.

Will I get a warranty with the conversion?
Yes, this warranty is provided as standard, and on Prins systems your warranty is 24-months, there is also a  3rd party warranty to cover vehicle components which is optional.

Will the conversion affect the manufacturers vehicle warranty?
AFS provides an optional 12-month Vehicle Warranty Insurance policy.  These policies are extendable to span the duration of the Manufacturers warranty, providing cover and peace of mind in the unlikely event that a faulty vehicle component or engine related problem, be deemed by the manufacturer, attributable to the LPG system and not covered under the terms and conditions of their warranty.

Can I save money if I am looking for conversion of a fleet of vehicles?

Yes.  We offer a full range of conversion options for the modern fleet manager including 'back to base' refuelling for LPG fuel costing as little as 20p per litre, and a whole range of options for purchase, finance or leasing of LPG vehicles.  See our LPG fleet conversion page for further details.

Save up to 40% on fuel costs

Rising tax on Petrol and a low tax on LPG means that LPG conversion is an economical choice for all motorists. With an overall lower cost for the fuel and an exemption to congestion charges, this all means handfuls of cash to spend on something more interesting.
